Airbnb launches $1000+ per evening luxurious rental tier

(CNN) — Penthouses and chateaux are a far cry from the sofas and spare rooms that launched trip rental behemoth Airbnb.

Eleven years after Airbnb founders Brian Chesky and Joe Gebbia invited renters to sleep on air mattresses of their San Francisco condo, Airbnb has launched an exponentially extra luxurious tier of rental properties with Airbnb Luxe.

The two,000 newly listed properties have been drawn from Luxurious Retreats, a separate rental website acquired by Airbnb in 2017. That website continues to function independently, with a complete of 5,000 luxurious listings all over the world.

Airbnb Luxe marks a shift in technique for the corporate, which had initially meant to spin the posh properties right into a model referred to as Past by Airbnb.

“After introducing Beyond last year, we took a step back to really think about the right brand approach,” Airbnb spokeswoman Maria Rodriguez informed CNN Journey.

“And the truth is that we already had a great luxury brand in Luxury Retreats and the Airbnb brand itself is incredibly strong; it’s one of our real differentiators. So we made the decision not to introduce a new brand in Beyond.”

The brand new Luxe tier, which pairs luxurious houses and “trip designers” who can prepare experiences and companies tailor-made to friends’ wishes, is basically the revised Past idea.

Luxe houses have handed a 300-point inspection to qualify for the tier, Rodriguez says, they usually common nightly charges of $1,500 to $2,000.

“With Airbnb Luxe we are applying the same approach we’ve used since we launched Airbnb more than 11 years ago — creating local, authentic and magical travel moments now in amazing places to stay — to reimagine the way people think and experience luxury travel,” Airbnb co-founder Brian Chesky stated in a press release.

The brand new tier is an enormous step above Airbnb’s Plus tier, launched in February 2018, the place houses endure a 100-point inspection and common $150 per evening.

Plus-level houses might have hosts current and will nonetheless be spare rooms in a bigger home, in keeping with Rodriguez. No hosts are current in Luxe-level choices, which are sometimes multi-story mansions or spectacular city pieds-à-terre.

For final exclusivity, there is a non-public island in French Polynesia, Nukutepipi, that may accommodate 52 friends in its 21 bedrooms and whopping 25 baths. That’ll run you about $150,000 an evening. With out an air mattress in sight.
