LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Academic honors were announced for the Villanova softball program this week as the Wildcats continued to excel in the classroom during the 2021-22 academic year while successfully defending their BIG EAST title and advancing to an NCAA regional for the second consecutive year. Villanova was one of 66 Division I programs to post a team GPA of 3.5 or higher for the academic year. In addition, head coach Bridget Orchard had 13 student-athletes were named 2021-22 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes.
 
The NFCA recognizes Scholar-Athletes who have recorded a GPA of 3.5 or higher during the previous academic year. Among the 13 honorees from the Wildcats were six of the team’s graduating student-athletes, including the team’s two NFCA Mideast All-Region honorees in graduate Paige Rauch and senior Megan Kern. The other graduating members of the team to earn Scholar-Athlete recognition were graduate Angela Giampolo along with seniors Erin Gray, Sydney Hayes and Ryan Henry.
 
Villanova’s list of scholar-athletes also included sophomore Tess Cites, junior Dani Dabroski, junior Ally Jones, sophomore Emily Orr, sophomore Caroline Pellicano, junior Victoria Sebastian and freshman Elaina Wagner.
 
The individual honorees on the Easton/NFCA Scholar-Athlete squad and the annual team GPA rankings are submitted by member head coaches and recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across the Association’s membership categories. The list of Scholar-Athletes for 2021-22 included more than 7,500 total honorees across all levels of NFCA membership.
 
Villanova posted a 3.516 team GPA in 2021-22 while going 32-24 on the diamond and winning its second straight BIG EAST title. Orchard led the Wildcats to an undefeated run through the BIG EAST Championship and an appearance in an NCAA regional in Orlando, Fla. Following the season 18 student-athletes were selected to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team and 16 members of the team were named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for having a semester GPA of 3.2 or higher.
