DALLAS (SMU) – 

The SMU men’s swimming and diving team wrapped up night one of action at the SMU Classic on Friday. The two-day event is being held at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium.

The event welcomes top competition from around the country and features eight swimmers and one diver from each competing institution. Each swimmer may compete in three events per day, and events will be contested in two heats, with one swimmer from each school in each heat. Divers will compete on 1 and 3 meter.

As a team, the Mustangs sit in sixth place with 95 points. 

Colin Feehery posted an NCAA B Cut in the 400 IM to lead the Mustangs in the event. The senior covered the distance in 3:46.44 to finish third in the field. This is the fourth career NCAA cut in the 400 IM for Feehery. In the 100 backstroke, Feehery posted a 53.56, earning his second NCAA B Standard of the night.  

Angus Corbeau placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke B Final (54.64). In the 400 IM Consolation final, Cotton Fields swam a 3:54.76, earning fifth place in the race. 

On the diving side, Peter Smithson picked up valuable points for the Mustangs, finishing in third place and hitting an NCAA Zone mark on 1 Meter with a score of 312.10. This marks the fourth NCAA Zone mark on 1 meter of Smithson’s career.

Sage Sungail began his SMU career swimming a 1:37.61 in the 200 freestyle. Russell Exum posted a 1:39.54 in the Consolation Final. Both swimmers earned sixth-place finishes in their races. 

Joe Rusnock swam a time of 21.20 in the 50 freestyle, while Lance Butler gathered a time of 20.27, earning sixth place in the same race.

Fields represented the Mustangs in the 100 fly B Final, swimming a 49.10.

Jack Easton swam in back-to-back events. Easton recorded a 48.27 in the 100 Fly, followed by a 50.42 in the 100 Backstroke. Joe Rusnock posted a 50.42 in the same race.

The 400 medley relay team consisting of Easton, Rusnock, Exum and Butler touched the wall at the 3:14.42 mark. In the final event of the night, Sungail, Exum, Feehery and Fields posted a time of 6:35.66 in the 800 freestyle relay.

The final day of action is Saturday at 11 a.m. ad features the 200 medley relay, 500 free, 200 breast, 200 back, 3 meter, 100 free, 200 fly, 200 IM and 200 free relay. The meet can be seen on PonyUp TV and live results will be available on SMUMustangs.com, DiveMeets and on the Meet Mobile App.
