It took six weeks, but No. 3 Ohio State finally left Columbus, Ohio and is set to play a game somewhere other than Ohio Stadium. After five weeks, the Buckeyes are on the road this weekend in East Lansing to take on Michigan State.

As is the case with every first road game, there was intrigue about which players would make the trip to take on the Spartans. That question was answered when the Scarlet and Gray released the team’s 74-man travel roster prior to the contest.

A total of 17 true freshmen, 15 on scholarship and two walk-ons, made the trip to East Lansing for Ohio State and could make their first road appearance of their young careers. This list includes running backs Dallan Hayden and TC Caffey, linebacker C.J. Hicks, wide receivers Kaleb Brown and Kojo Antwi, quarterback Devin Brown, cornerbacks Jyaire Brown and Ryan Turner, safeties Sonny Styles and Kye Stokes, kicker Jayden Fielding, offensive linemen Tegra Tshabola and Carson Hinzman, tight end Bennett Christian, defensive ends Caden Curry and Kenyatta Jackson, defensive tackle Hero Kanu.

All of the freshmen who made the trip other than Hinzman have already featured on offense or defense this year for Ohio State. Most of these snaps have come late when the Buckeyes already have the game in hand, but players such as Hayden, Jyaire Brown, Styles, Stokes and Fielding have all played important snaps for the Scarlet and Gray in the opening five games of the season.

Kicker Parker Lewis, who transferred from USC this offseason and was just ruled eligible by the NCAA before the last game against Rutgers, did not make the trip.

Given that Ohio State has already played five games this year, there are no real surprises on the travel roster. The Buckeye travel roster does not include the 11 players that were listed as unavailable on the Scarlet and Gray’s availability report for the Spartan game, which was released on Saturday morning. This means wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and running back Miyan Williams did not make the trip to East Lansing.
