ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The University of Michigan volleyball team fell to No. 3 Nebraska in straight sets (14-25, 24-26, 19-25) inside Crisler Center on Saturday (Oct. 8).

Michigan (12-4, 3-3 Big Ten) was led by Kendall Murray with 13 kills and Jess Mruzik, who recorded 10 kills and 10 digs for her fourth double-double of the season. Hannah Grant finished with 24 digs for her fifth straight double-digit dig performance.

The Maize and Blue got out to a slow start in the first set and fell behind early, 12-4, due to a balanced attack from Nebraska. The Cornhuskers (14-1, 6-0 Big Ten) never slowed down and used an effective .464 hitting percentage to take the first set 25-14.

Michigan came storming back in the second set, keeping it close all the way through. The set saw seven lead changes and was tied 14 times. Jacque Boney tied things up at 6-6 and give Michigan the momentum it needed, as the Wolverines went on a 5-0 scoring run behind three kills from Boney and two from Murray to pull ahead 10-6. The Cornhuskers chipped away at the four-point lead, pulling even with U-M at 17-17, and took the go-ahead point after back-to-back kills. The teams battled, forcing seven more tie scores before consecutive kills sealed the deal for Nebraska in the second set, 26-24.

The final set went back and forth until Nebraska went on a couple of scoring runs and pulled ahead for a 20-16 lead. Michigan eventually pulled within three points late in the set on a kill from Jess Robinson, but ultimately the Cornhuskers went on to take the set 25-19 for a 3-0 match victory.

Robinson collected seven kills on the night and hit at a .545 clip, while May Pertofsky and Boney each chipped in five kills.

Michigan will return to action on Friday (Oct. 14) against cross-town rival Michigan State. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. in East Lansing, Mich. at the Breslin Center.
