Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever welcomes a fresh collection of incredible characters, including Tenoch Huerta, who will play the film’s antagonist, Namor. A critical characteristic of the half human and half Atlantean is his natural swimming ability, which Huerta admitted was a skill he did not possess before accepting the aquatic role.

During an interview with Spanish publication Life and Style, Huerta revealed the now laughable truth that he failed to relay to Coogler when offered the Black Panther 2 role. “I replied that I had never drowned and went back to my managers,” stated Huerta when asked whether he could perform one of the more basic requirements of the king of Atlantis. “We just say yes and then go see what’s up,” said Huerta, knowing that revealing the truth may have impacted his probability of landing the iconic role.

After eight months of swimming lessons, however, Huerta arrived prepared and ready to go for filming in Atlanta. The rest is history, as Huerta looks to usher in a new enticing character for Marvel audiences. Namor is half human and half Atlantean, so he carries numerous superhuman abilities, including endurance, strength, and the ability to breathe underwater. In addition, the Black Panther 2 antagonist can swim at incredible speeds and will hope to make a significant impact when he officially arrives.

Huerta will look to become a prominent household name once Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever officially makes its long-awaited theatrical arrival. The Mexican-American actor has been in a few notable projects throughout his acting career, such as The Forever Purge and Netflix’s Narcos: Mexico. Coogler’s 2018 film Black Panther introduced many audiences to the emblematic antagonist Killmonger played by Micheal B. Jordan, who quickly became a fan favourite and one of the more renowned villains in the MCU. It will be interesting to see if Huerta and Namor have the same memorable effect.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will have big shoes to fill, looking to replicate and enhance the success generated by the 2018 original film. The first Black Panther film earned seven Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, a feat no other Marvel film has accomplished. Huerta will play a significant role in determining the film’s success, a pressure he seems prepared to carry on his shoulders. It is astounding that the Mexican-American actor may have missed out on the iconic role because of his inability to swim, but thankfully the ability was easy for Huerta to harness to bring such an important character to life.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will hit theaters on November 11, 2022.
