TUCSON, Ariz. — The BYU men’s and women’s swim and dive teams returned to competitive action with a dual meet against Big 12 rival Arizona on Friday, marking their first event since late November.

Tanner Nelson, Darwin Anderson, Max Kleinman, Nathaniel Eliason, and Ezra Purcell delivered BYU men’s swim and dive’s top results on the first day in Tucson.

Nelson secured second place in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:47.51, finishing 1.56 seconds ahead of Arizona’s Bryan Wong and only behind nationally-ranked Wildcat Haakon Naughton.

Women’s Summary

The BYU women’s swim and dive team recorded four second-place finishes at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center on Friday. They had two swimmers finish in the top three of the 100 breast, with Mackenzie Miller Lung in second at 1:00.78 and Jasmine Anderson finishing third with a time of 1:01.82.

Lucy Warnick clocked in at 2:02.83 to secure second in the 200 individual medley, placing ahead of the Wildcats’ Charlie Millard and Kesley Wasikowski. Brooklyn Larson Clouse and Alexia Jackson Hansen finished second and third in the 3-meter dive with scores of 275.40 and 273.75, respectively.

Furthermore, BYU had three competitors succeed in the top five of the 200 butterfly event, with Lucy Marek, Abril Arias, and Ellie Boyer all within 0.52 seconds of each other, placing third through fifth.

BYU will conclude its weekend dual meet against Arizona on Saturday, with events recommencing at 10:30 a.m. MST, starting with the 200 medley relay.
