The City of Lawrence is thrilled to reveal the winner of our 2024 Snow Plow Naming Contest: Taylor Drift! This imaginative and pun-inspired name won over our judging panel and will soon be seen on one of the diligent snow plows that ensure our streets remain clear and secure during the winter months.

The Snow Plow Naming Contest was a remarkable triumph, gathering over 650 distinct and inventive name entries in just a single week. From witty wordplay to touching acknowledgments, the contest showcased the creativity, humor, and pride of Lawrence citizens.

“The extraordinary reaction to this contest has been incredible,” stated Melissa Sieben, Municipal Services and Operations Director. “This initiative united our community during the festive season and provided everyone an avenue to add their personal flair to the services that keep Lawrence operating smoothly throughout winter.”

Introducing the Winning Name and Its Contributors
The victorious name, Taylor Drift, was proposed by various members of our community, including:

  • Katelynn Cale
  • Alex Hawman
  • AJ
  • Courtney Coffey
  • Debi Hollaway
  • Carson Loveless
  • Jason Keezer

Their witty and timely concept captivated our judges, who had the tough job of selecting from so many outstanding entries.

We would also like to acknowledge some of our runner-up names, including Scoop Dogg, Beyonce Snowles, Snow More Mr. Ice Guy, Clearopathra, among many others!

What Lies Ahead for the Winning Name?
As part of the festivities, our Central Maintenance Garage team will construct a custom metal sign featuring the winning name. This sign will be proudly attached to the snow plow, and residents will soon witness Taylor Drift in operation on our streets, spreading joy while clearing snow!

Looking Forward
The City is eager to reintroduce the Snow Plow Naming Contest in the years to come. It presents a fantastic opportunity to engage with residents, celebrate community pride, and infuse some character into the vital work our snow plows perform each winter.

We extend our sincere gratitude to all who took part in this year’s contest. Your ingenuity and passion contribute to making Lawrence an amazing place to call home.

Stay tuned for more enjoyable, community-centered events, and be on the lookout for Taylor Drift making its rounds through town this winter!
