Aaron Rodgers Takes a Playful Jab at Jets Owner Amid Reports of Teen Sons’ Participation

Despite being knocked out of playoff consideration earlier this month, the New York Jets found themselves at the forefront of NFL discussions last week, triggered by reports of the team’s dysfunction.

The Athletic’s Diana Russini and Michael Silver have indicated that Jets owner Woody Johnson’s sons, Brick and Jack, have participated in several meetings at the team facility. Their purported impact was most clearly illustrated in the Jets’ negotiations to acquire then Denver Broncos receiver Jerry Jeudy, which reportedly fell apart due to the wide receiver’s low score on the Madden NFL video game.

Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers seemed to joke about Johnson’s sons while addressing his uncertain future with the Jets during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Monday.

“I’ve never been released before,” Rodgers remarked [via ESPN’s Rich Cimini]. “Being released would be a first. Being released by a teenager would also be a first. … I see the humor in all of it. If that occurs, it’s a fantastic story.”

Rodgers remains under contract through the 2025 season. If the Jets were to cut him this offseason, they would incur $49 million in dead cap space; however, they could distribute that over the next two years and effectively save $9.5 million towards the ’25 salary cap.

Rodgers also confirmed his willingness to accept a pay reduction and return to the Jets in 2025, even if they draft a quarterback early on. He reiterated that he has yet to decide whether he wants to continue playing in 2025.

For the time being, he and the Jets will gear up for their Week 17 confrontation against the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium this Sunday.
