Bevo Stays Home: The Texas Mascot’s Peach Bowl Absence

Once more, Bevo will not be travelling to Atlanta, as the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl declared on Monday that there isn’t sufficient space on the sidelines in Mercedes Benz-Stadium for the Texas Longhorns mascot.

Earlier this month, Bevo was prohibited from attending the SEC championship game, at the same facility, for the identical reason. Texas faces Arizona State in a College Football Playoff quarterfinal on January 1.

The Peach Bowl stated, “We cherish all the wonderful traditions of college football and certainly, Bevo is among the finest, but the unfortunate truth is there is simply inadequate space on the sidelines of Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

“Considering the limitations of the stadium and prioritizing the safety of Bevo, the players, all the network cameras, support crew, cheerleaders, and photographers, we regrettably will not be able to have Bevo on the field.”

The 1,700-pound Bevo XV, possessing a horn span of 58 inches, would require a considerably large enclosure to fit properly on the sideline. Bevo made the journey to the 2019 Sugar Bowl, where he famously charged out of his pen towards Georgia mascot Uga.
