Bob Cox | Journal Review

The swim and dive teams for girls and boys from Crawfordsville both secured county titles on Saturday at the Crawfordsville Aquatic Center. The winning times along with depth fueled the Athenians’ success.

For the girls, the total scores were Crawfordsville 295, North Montgomery 266, and Southmont 69. The boys’ competition saw Crawfordsville achieving 239 points while North Montgomery and Southmont tied at second with 199 points each.

Crawfordsville swim coach Kevin Hedrick stated that both teams displayed the determination and depth required to clinch the championships.

“It was a solid team effort from both our boys and girls,” Hedrick expressed. “Almost all our competitors achieved their personal bests today. The experience on the girls’ side is clear. The boys performed sufficiently throughout the meet to secure the victory. Depth was certainly a significant factor in the county meet.”

North Montgomery coach Erin Yeager mentioned that her teams had a commendable performance, and the meet provided valuable insights into their areas for improvement.

“We had numerous impressive swims, with some substantial improvements on the boys’ side,” Yeager remarked. “My girls were exceptional. We have several aspects to focus on during the Christmas break, and I’m eager to see where all this leads us.”

Southmont coach Dan McCormick expressed satisfaction with his boys finishing second, acknowledging that his young girls’ team would benefit from the experience gained in the meet.

“I felt we had very competitive contests, particularly among the boys,” McCormick noted. “The boys triumphed in four events, and our young girls team will refine some fundamentals. We are looking forward to the second half.”

All three coaches are eager for winter break and will reconvene on Thursday as all six teams continue their pursuit of improved performance.
