Santa Claus won’t be the only one traveling during this holiday week.

According to AAA, over 119 million individuals are anticipated to be traveling for Christmas and Hanukkah.

Regionally, Fort Dodge Regional Airport is witnessing an increase in travelers entering and exiting Fort Dodge.

“In contrast to the concentrated Thanksgiving holiday travel period, with Christmas occurring midweek, we are observing elevated passenger volumes from Friday, Dec. 20 through the New Year weekend,” remarked Rhonda Chambers, aviation director at Fort Dodge Regional Airport. “Travelers are also opting to fly on Christmas Day.”

Chambers mentioned that currently, there are no cuts in airline flights in or out of Fort Dodge Regional Airport, unlike during the Thanksgiving holiday.

“We genuinely value every traveler who chooses to fly through Fort Dodge Regional Airport,” Chambers stated.

Local and county law enforcement will be fully staffed and active on the highways this holiday week.

“As with any holiday, the roads will be busier with travelers,” said Fort Dodge Police Chief Dennis Quinn. “We ask for your patience and recommend allowing additional time to reach your destination.”

Although there aren’t official speed traps deployed throughout the area, both Fort Dodge police and Webster County deputies encourage travelers to set aside their cell phones and remain vigilant while driving.

“Our focus will be on seatbelt compliance, speeding, and driving under the influence,” stated Luke Fleener, sheriff of Webster County. “Please drive responsibly and hands-free and enjoy this festive season.”
