Matthew McConaughey, who settled in Austin, Texas, with his spouse Camila Alves in 2014, recently expressed his views on living away from Hollywood and adopting a slower, more grounded way of life. Speaking on the Good Trouble with Nick Kyrgios podcast, the Oscar-winning actor opened up about the motivations behind his relocation and how life in Texas has influenced his outlook over the preceding decade.

When podcast host and tennis athlete Nick Kyrgios remarked that McConaughey appeared profoundly settled and at ease, the Interstellar star clarified his bond with Texas. He articulated home as a place where “a mile feels like a mile, and an hour feels like 60 minutes.” McConaughey conveyed that residing in Texas permits him to be more attuned to time, relationships, and his work. The actor confessed that, despite his hectic profession, life in Texas bestows upon him a sense of equilibrium and insight.
Prior to his move to Texas, McConaughey dedicated years in Los Angeles, featuring in popular romantic comedies such as How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, The Wedding Planner, Failure to Launch, and Fool’s Gold. However, after uniting in marriage with Camila Alves, he sensed a rising urge for transformation. McConaughey disclosed that he and his wife reached a pact: he wouldn’t return to acting unless presented with roles that liberated him from his “rom-com guy” persona.
This choice ultimately became pivotal for his profession.
