LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – During this festive season, numerous individuals have probably received Christmas greetings or observed holiday-themed photo sessions showcasing snow-draped trees or meticulously arranged fireplaces. Yet, for local photographers, acquiring those setups is not always straightforward.
For the past three years, Studio 8 has sought to serve as a venue for photographers, created by photographers.
“As a photographer, I understand that entering the realm of portrait photography can be challenging,” stated Madison Sobotka, co-proprietor of Studio 8. ”Thus, I recognize how nearly impossible it is to either own or rent a space.”
Sobotka launched the Studio 8 initiative at merely 21 years of age. Presently, with studios located in Lincoln and Omaha, it provides a temporary haven for countless photographers. It’s a place where they can experiment and innovate with fresh concepts for seasonal scenes, props, and lighting to bring their creative ideas into existence.
The studio boasts styled sets that are frequently updated, ranging from summery neutral designs to Valentine’s Day setups, and of course, Christmas backdrops.
“Each year I go all out for Christmas,” Sobotka expressed. “We put in substantial effort to ensure a wide array of choices, and when visitors arrive, they are simply amazed, their expressions are filled with excitement.”
There’s a moody Christmas set, a vibrant red backdrop adorned with gifts, and much more. Local photographers claim that Studio 8 is an ongoing source of opportunity.
“I’ve been capturing images in this city for quite some time, and suitable rental spaces for part-time photographers are often scarce. I lack the income to acquire a studio or to have a stake in one,” remarked Kimberly Hilzer, a part-time photographer. “If you can succeed here, then you can create excellent photographs, ensuring satisfied clients and increased business.”
However, the assistance does not end there. Sobotka mentioned that the studio also provides workshops aimed at helping photographers maximize their use of the space.
“The possibilities here are limitless in terms of the types of photos you can create, whether you’re an amateur or using your iPhone or cell phone for photography,” shared Carrah Weakly, photographer and owner of Dreamlight Portrait Artistry. “I believe they prepare you for success in this environment.”
