Chill Alert: Slippery Travels Ahead as Freezing Drizzle and Fog Set In!

(WLUK) — Challenging travel circumstances anticipated across parts of Northeast Wisconsin on Thursday.

An advisory for winter weather was announced early Thursday morning, remaining effective until noon on the same day.

The regions affected by the advisory include Central and Northeast Wisconsin. Local counties comprise Brown, Outagamie, Winnebago, Oconto, Shawano, Calumet, Waupaca, Waushara, and Menominee. Areas along the lakeshore are not included in this advisory.

Regions affected by the advisory can expect sporadic freezing drizzle on Thursday morning, leading to roads that are slick and icy. Freezing drizzle refers to light precipitation that freezes upon contacting surfaces, potentially resulting in a layer of ice.

Roadways, bridges, and sidewalks that are not treated will become slippery, even if temperatures rise above the freezing mark. The threat of ice persists for Northern Wisconsin through the night and into early Friday.

Fog will also pose a challenge starting Thursday morning and continuing through Saturday. The influx of warmer air into the area combined with the existing snowpack will lead to fog formation. Anticipate dense fog development in certain regions, with visibility decreasing to less than a quarter-mile.

If you plan to travel on Thursday, proceed with caution by driving slowly, increasing your following distance, using low-beam headlights, and avoiding abrupt stopping.
