Huskies Take the Gold at Lebanon Swimming Invitational!

The swimmers from Sweet Home excelled on both the boys’ and girls’ teams on Saturday, December 21, at the Lebanon Invitational.

The competition featured some of the historically prominent 4A teams in the state, including Newport, the reigning state boys’ champion.

The boys secured victory by one point over the Cubs, finishing 74-73.

“The meet went exceptionally well,” Coach A Jay Bronson remarked. “It was a fantastic win against the defending champions, Newport. Our boys performed admirably. We are currently in the midst of our training regimen, so we aren’t anticipating any personal bests, but they’re putting in the effort. We’re eager to see how we perform once we are rested and primed for competition.”

On the girls’ side, the Huskies were short three swimmers due to illness and family commitments, yet they still managed to outscore the hosts 81-67.

The girls from Sweet Home triumphed in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays, while the boys clinched the 200 Medley Relay. The boys from Lebanon took first place in the 200 Freestyle Relay.

Individual champions for the Huskies included Khloe Sautel in the 200 and 500 freestyles, Kirsten Sautel in the 200 Individual Medley and the 100 Breaststroke, Shayne Schuster in the 100 Breaststroke, Arman Marble in the boys’ 500 Freestyle, and RJ Abbott in the 100 Butterfly.

Bronson highlighted key performers for Sweet Home, including sophomores Lexi Rundell, Seth Cox, and Henry Jones, along with “our consistent athletes, whom we’ve come to expect brilliance from, which is unfair to them.”

“But they always deliver: Shayne, RJ, Kirsten, Khloe, and Arman.”

The next event for the Huskies is a home meetup featuring alumni at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 27.
