“Spotlight on Colvin ’11: A Kansas! Magazine Exclusive”

Tanner Colvin ’11 is establishing a reputation for himself in the creative realm of Kansas.

His photography is featured in the latest edition of Kansas! Magazine, where he has begun shooting for the publication, which is released quarterly by the Kansas Tourism of the Kansas Department of Commerce.

In addition to his role as the creative director for Vortex Global in Salina, he also manages a successful freelance photography operation. He frequently captures images of sports and events, among other subjects, for Kansas Wesleyan University and local high schools.

Other interests encompass storm chasing, wildlife and nature, as well as gardening—of which he certainly takes photographs.

To inspire fellow photographers in the vicinity, Colvin is a co-organizer of the Salina Photography Club and arranged its inaugural exhibit late this summer at The Gallery on the Kansas Wesleyan campus.

For several years, Colvin has participated as a co-organizer for Boom! Salina Street Art and Murals. This initiative has attracted artists from around the globe to paint grain elevators, the facades and backs of buildings, as well as on sidewalks.

Colvin hails from Salina and initially began photographing for his high school newspaper and yearbook.

He continued this pursuit as a student at Kansas Wesleyan and subsequently started freelancing for the university after completing his studies.

He was initially recognized in the region for his tenure as a part-time photographer at the Salina Journal.
