About Us

The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™ (WLSL) is an international drowning prevention initiative established by the World Waterpark Association in 2010.  This program receives backing from prominent aquatics and safety organizations globally and is hosted at various aquatic venues, ranging from large water parks to community pools and swim academies. WLSL acts as a platform to raise community awareness regarding the essential nature of teaching swimming to children. Mastering swimming is a crucial life-saving ability for kids and an essential measure against drowning, which remains the leading cause of mortality for children aged 1-4 in the U.S. and the second leading cause for those aged 5-14.

Studies conducted by the American Academy of Pediatrics indicate that the risk of drowning can be lowered by 88% if children engage in formal swim lessons between the ages of 1 and 4.  Nevertheless, a poll by the American Red Cross in 2020 revealed that over half of Americans (56%) either cannot swim or lack the essential basic swimming abilities.  TEAM WLSL™ is committed to raising awareness that swimming lessons are indispensable.
