In Jersey, swimmers marked Christmas with a bold plunge to gather funds for two local charities.
Participants appeared at Ouaisné Bay warmly dressed, but quickly changed to their swimsuits to support end-of-life charity Jersey Hospice Care and Love Thy Neighbour, a Christian organization aiding those in distress.
The yearly Ouaisné swim, coordinated by educational experts The Edwin Group, was one of many occurring across the island.
Volunteer Ruth Curzon from Love Thy Neighbour expressed appreciation for the swimmers’ kindness, describing it as a “wonderful” event.
Lee Wells, who typically participates in the Havre des Pas Christmas Day swim, commented: “At first, it’s extremely cold, but you acclimate and everyone is shouting – it’s just fantastic fun.”
Angela Mariani concurred that it was “entirely freezing” yet “incredibly refreshing.”
“It’s such a delightful thing to do on Christmas Day… it perfectly kickstarts the day before we indulge in too much food and drink,” she remarked.
Max Tupper expressed he almost skipped the swim but soon followed his father into the sea.
Tony and Margaret Osmont, who were gathering funds for Jersey Hospice Care, mentioned they assist with fundraising efforts for the charity whenever they can.
Mrs. Osmont stated they wanted to contribute back because cancer had impacted both of their lives.
