“From Saturday onwards, consumers in the EU will no longer need an individual charger for their smartphones, tablets, cameras, headphones, gaming consoles, and various other devices, as USB Type-C charging ports will be standardized for mobile devices throughout the union,” states the article.

In 2022, the European Parliament and EU member nations voted unanimously to eliminate alternative charging solutions, thus mandating that all compact and mid-sized portable electronic devices sold within the EU be USB-C compliant.

According to EU regulations, consumers may also choose to forgo receiving a new charger with each device they purchase.

From April 28, 2026, laptop manufacturers will be subjected to the same requirements.
