“Sunny Skies, Stormy Delays: Holiday Travel Troubles in South Florida”

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Across the nation, several frustrating delays were experienced in South Florida on Friday, including some cancellations due to a weather system affecting travel from coast to coast.

Adverse weather throughout the country led to travel delays on Friday, and the impact reached South Florida. Nearly 3,000 flights were postponed nationwide by Friday evening, as reported by FlightAware.com.

In South Florida, the statistics appear as follows:

At Miami International, slightly fewer than 290 flights faced delays along with five cancellations. At Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International, there were just over 260 delays and one cancellation recorded.

“You have to wait with infants,” remarked Adeline Kamera, who arrived in Miami from Germany Friday afternoon after encountering a two-hour delay from Charlotte.

“Two hours feels like quite some time,” Kamera emphasized.

The delays are attributed to this: In the western mountains, storms may deposit 1 to 2 feet of snow and over four inches of rain.

Triple-A projects unprecedented travel figures this season, estimating that 119 million Americans will travel more than 50 miles between December 21 and January 1, primarily by road.

Additionally, record numbers are forecasted to fly: 7.85 million individuals this holiday season, which is an increase of approximately 300,000 compared to last year.
