The golf season commenced for two days at the Wareham Free Library as residents of Wareham set aside their books to grab a putter and navigate the library’s miniature golf course.
The library’s miniature golf course featured 18 holes across different areas of the facility on Friday, Dec. 27, and Saturday, Dec. 28. Library Director Patrick Marshall stated that this was their third annual mini golf occasion.
“It’s an entertaining family event and you observe individuals of all ages from young children to grandparents,” remarked Marshall. “It provides an opportunity for people to discover sections of the library they might not typically visit.”
The miniature golf course was arranged by Dartmouth local Russ Bolton, who has built a career traveling nationwide, establishing mini golf courses in libraries.
“This is remarkable because there are nearly no physical activities that senior individuals can engage in with their grandchildren,” Bolton noted.
He further mentioned that he witnesses both grandparents and young children enjoying themselves as they play mini golf.
“Grandparents often say ‘I haven’t played mini golf since childhood’ and they can share that experience with their grandchildren while the kids say ‘grandpa look at this shot’ each time, so it’s just a great deal of fun,” Bolton added.
Wareham resident Nancy Latham was enjoying mini golf with her grandchildren, Charlie and Abby Farnham, and expressed how much it means to spend quality time with them.
“I love it, I truly enjoy it and my grandchildren are having fun as well,” stated Latham.
