SHREVEPORT, La. — Bryson Daily set a new FBS record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in a season with 32, scoring three times in the No. 19 Army’s 27-6 triumph over Louisiana Tech during the Independence Bowl on Saturday evening.

Daily accumulated 127 yards on 27 attempts and completed 2 of 9 passes for 65 yards, propelling Army to a program-best 12-2 record. Daily surpassed the previous FBS quarterback record for touchdowns in a season which was established by Navy’s Keenan Reynolds in 2013.

“I’m incredibly proud of this senior class and how we united for this season,” Daily remarked. “Achieving two consecutive six-win seasons and turning around to reach 12, I am just immensely proud of the team.”

Hayden Reed contributed 114 yards rushing and one touchdown on 20 carries.

Army came into the contest with a national best of 298.9 rushing yards per game and overpowered the Bulldogs (5-8), who stepped in as a last-minute alternative for Sun Belt champion Marshall.

“They bounced back from a very emotional and challenging loss [to Navy] two weeks back with an outstanding effort,” Army head coach Jeff Monken stated.

Army established an Independence Bowl record with a 21-play drive, covering 75 yards in the second quarter to seize a 21-3 advantage. Daily completed the drive with an 8-yard scoring run, which included two third-down and three fourth-down conversions.

“It seemed like we were out there forever,” Reed expressed.

Drew Henderson successfully kicked field goals of 27 and 44 yards for Louisiana Tech. Tru Edwards, who has entered the transfer portal, recorded eight receptions for 92 yards.

Takeaways

Army: The Black Knights managed to alleviate some of the bitterness that remained following a loss to Navy two weeks ago.

Louisiana Tech: The Bulldogs appointed a new offensive coordinator, Tony Franklin, after the regular season concluded.
