Tragedy Strikes: 47 Lives Lost in Muan Airport Catastrophe

A plane transporting 181 individuals has gone down at an airport in South Korea, resulting in the deaths of at least 47 individuals, as reported by the nation’s fire department.

According to the Yonhap news agency, the aircraft veered off the runway and collided with a wall at Muan International Airport located in the southwestern region of the nation.

The Jeju Air flight, which was carrying 175 passengers and six crew members, was reportedly returning from Bangkok, Thailand, when the incident occurred during its landing phase.

So far, two individuals have been located alive and rescue efforts are still ongoing, a fire officials stated to the Reuters news agency.

Rescue teams were working to help those trapped in the tail end of the plane, according to an official from the airport.

Reports by Yonhap indicate the passengers included 173 South Koreans and two Thais.

The reason for the crash remains unclear, but local media suggest that it might have been caused by birds interfering with the aircraft’s systems.

Unverified videos shared on social media depict the aircraft sliding off the runway and crashing into a wall, subsequently igniting in flames.

Additional footage presents a significant column of black smoke ascending into the atmosphere.

According to South Korea’s fire department, one flight attendant and one passenger have been rescued thus far, noting that 80 firefighters and over 30 fire vehicles have been sent to the scene of the crash.
