GREENVILLE, S.C. (WYFF/CNN Newsource/WKRC) – A tragic incident occurred when a 17-year-old amusement park worker lost his life in a collision between a go-kart and a forklift.

Kamel Seveion Sewell, aged 17, was employed at Frankie’s Fun Park, a venue featuring rides, arcade games, activities, and food options.

The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office reported that they received a notification at 11:43 a.m. on Friday concerning a crash that took place at Frankie’s Fun Park involving a go-kart and a forklift.

An unnamed employee informed the local channel WYFF, “The forklift was stationed there, but the prongs were extending outside the gate. They were approximately 3 or 4 feet above the ground. The weather was overcast, and everything in the pit is painted gray. Those [forklift prongs] blend in quite well with the asphalt.”

“I witnessed [Sewell] accelerate, and then abruptly I heard a loud noise,” the worker recounted. “Then I saw his body.”

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office verified that Sewell succumbed when the go-kart he was operating struck the forklift, which was also being maneuvered by another staff member.

The anonymous coworker remarked that helmets are not mandated for riders and questioned the safety standards of Frankie’s Fun Park and other amusement venues statewide.

“The existing policies could definitely be adjusted to enhance safety,” the employee stated. “Because many of these go-kart tracks leave a lot of room for mistakes.”

Frankie’s Fun Park issued a statement indicating their cooperation with law enforcement and OSHA in probing the incident while extending their condolences to Sewell’s family.
