Lexington’s New Year’s Eve celebrations – marking the commencement of the community’s 250th anniversary festivities – is relocating to Central Bank Center to evade inclement weather. New Year’s Eve at Central Bank Center, sponsored by Maker’s Mark, will showcase a festival suitable for all age groups.

“After 250 years, we undoubtedly recognize that the one certainty regarding Kentucky’s climate is its unpredictability,” remarked Mayor Linda Gorton. “No issue. We are ready. We’re transitioning to Central Bank Center to ensure that everyone remains safe and dry. Come downtown, and participate in the festivities!”

The excitement kicks off at 5 p.m. with a unique celebration tailored for children and families. Activities will include inflatable games, basketball, programming from the Lexington Children’s Museum, a performance by M’Power Rhythm, Lexington’s youth-focused African drumming group, and a special youth-oriented countdown to the new year led by Mayor Gorton. The event will carry on until 8 p.m. in the primary exhibition halls on the second level of Central Bank Center.

Starting at 9 p.m., it will be time for an older audience to join in. Live performances by “Tee Dee Young” and “Honeychild” will highlight the festivities. Food, beverages, and a special countdown to midnight led by Mayor Gorton will create a merry atmosphere for everyone.

Eunice Beatty and Kip Cornett, Co-Chairs of the 250Lex Commission stated, “The 250Lex team has been tirelessly working to guarantee a successful and enjoyable launch to our 250th anniversary year. Plan to come downtown to celebrate as we embark on a year dedicated to honoring all things Lexington.”

Parking will be accessible on High Street. The High Street parking area will open at 5 p.m. with an hourly fee for the evening. Ride-sharing is recommended. Ride-share drop-offs and pickups will be designated on Vine Street.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase. A clear bag policy will be in effect.
