Dive into Excellence: Meet the 2024 Naples Daily News Boys All-Area Swimming Team!

At the conclusion of each season, the Naples Daily News assembles All-Area teams to honor the finest athletes in every sport. Coaches from local schools are provided with nomination forms and are requested to recommend and evaluate their athletes as well as those from competing teams. The collected data, alongside the Naples Daily News’ investigations, resulted in the formation of the All-Area teams.

FIRST TEAM

Lucas Casey

School: CSN

Year: Junior

Highlights: During regionals, Casey secured third place in the 50 free and triumphed in the 100 free event. At the Class 1A state competition, he finished ninth in the 100 free and played a part in CSN’s third-place result in the 400 free relay.

Nathan Edwards

School: Naples

Year: Junior

Highlights: Edwards was the regional second-place finish in the 200 IM and third in the 100 backstroke. He placed 17th in both events at the Class 2A state meeting.

Nick Fabian

School: CSN

Year: Senior

Highlights: Fabian secured four state medals, achieving seventh place in the 200 free and eighth in the 500 free, and played a key role in the Seahawks’ medaling relays at Class 1A. He was also a double district champion in his individual events.

Maddox Horrell

School: Barron Collier

Year: Senior

Highlights: Horrell clinched the district champion title in the 50 free, finishing second in the event at regionals, and ending up in 16th at the Class 2A state competition. He also qualified for states in the 100 free.

Egor Kuznetsov

School: CSN

Year: Senior

Highlights: Kuznetsov participated in CSN’s medaling relay teams at the Class 1A state event. He qualified for the state meets in both the 50 free and 100 free, also winning the regional title in the 50 free.

Christian McAuley

School: CSN

Year: Senior

Highlights: McAuley placed 14th in both the 200 free and 500 free events at the Class 1A state meet and was the district second-place finish in both competitions. Additionally, he was instrumental in the Seahawks’ medaling relay teams.

Michael Richey-Klein

Institution: Naples

Grade: Junior

Accomplishments: A district and regional titleholder in 1-meter diving, Richey Klein secured the second position in the event at the Class 2A state competition with a score of 420.90.

Clay Shephard

Institution: Gulf Coast

Year: Senior

Accomplishments: Shephard achieved district and regional accolades in 1-meter diving again. He placed fourth at the Class 3A state meet with a diving score of 435.20.

Coby Werner

Institution: Barron Collier

Year: Senior

Accomplishments: In the 100 free event, Werner finished second at districts, third at regionals, and 14th at the Class 2A state competition. In the 100 back, he secured third at districts, fifth at regionals, and 15th at state.

COACH OF THE YEAR

John King

Institution: Community School of Naples

Accomplishments: After achieving district and regional triumphs, King led the Seahawks to a fifth-place result at the Class 1A state competition. The squad qualified for state in all three relays, finishing in the top positions in two, including a third-place achievement in the 400 free relay.
