Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa Crowned Ivy League Player of the Week!

PRINCETON, N.J. — Columbia men’s basketball’s Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa has been recognized as Ivy League Player of the Week for the third occasion this season, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.

In the matchup against Fairfield on Saturday, where the Lions triumphed 85-72, Rubio De La Rosa made a remarkable contribution by scoring all of his 27 points in the second half. He achieved an impressive 8-11 from the field, 5-7 from three-point range, and maintained a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line in the last 20 minutes. This marked the seventh 20-point performance of Rubio De La Rosa’s current season.

Rubio De La Rosa currently maintains an average of 19.6 points per game (ranking 25th nationwide) with a shooting percentage of 53.7 from the field. His three-point shooting accuracy stands at 46.4 percent, placing him 17th in the country. The native of Santiago, Dominican Republic has made 50 of 55 free throws (90.9 percent). With 235 points this season, Rubio De La Rosa leads the Ivy League in scoring.

In addition to his Ivy League Player of the Week recognitions this season (Nov. 11, Nov. 25, Dec. 30), Rubio De La Rosa has also been acknowledged as Mid-Major Madness Player of the Week (Nov. 12), CollegeInsider.com Lou Henson National Player of the Week on two occasions (Nov. 11 and Nov. 25), ESPN Dick Vitale National Player of the Week (Nov. 25), and USBWA Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week (Nov. 26).

Columbia (11-1) is experiencing its best start since 1969-70 and has accomplished winning its first eight home games in a season for the first time since 1981-82. The Lions will face Rutgers on Monday at 5 p.m., with the game streaming live on the Big Ten Network.
