Heartbreak in battle: Spartans’ Rally Can’t Overcome Nevada in Thrilling Showdown

RENO, Nev. – Sofia Kelemeni topped the scoreboard with 15 points, while Djessira Diawara contributed 11 points to lead San José State women’s basketball (7-7, 0-1 MW) in a tight 63-59 defeat against Nevada (6-8, 1-0 MW) at the Lawlor Events Center on Sunday afternoon.

• Kelemeni registered 15 points along with six rebounds, achieving a shooting percentage of 7-for-13 from the field.
• Kelemeni has now led the team in scoring for two consecutive games and holds an average of 21 points per contest.
• Diawara concluded the game with 11 points and nine rebounds, shooting 5-for-8 from the field.
• Currently, Diawara is the team leader in rebounds, averaging 7.1 per game.
• Amira Brown added 10 points along with three rebounds and one assist, shooting 3-for-8 from the field and 1-for-4 from beyond the arc.
• Finau Tonga recorded eight points, combined with three rebounds, two assists, and one steal, making 4-for-7 from the field.
• Sydni Summers accumulated seven points and one rebound, going 2-for-6 from three-point range. Both of her three-pointers were scored in the fourth quarter as the Spartans staged their late rally.
• This marks the Spartans’ second straight game featuring more than three players scoring in double figures.
• The Spartans outperformed the Wolf Pack from three-point territory, achieving 4-for-15.
• Scoring in the paint remains a consistent trend for the team, with a total of 36 points scored in the painted area during this matchup.
