Top-Ranked Women’s Basketball Dominates UTRGV in a 94-35 Non-Conference Finale!

AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 5 Texas women’s basketball team restricted The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley to 13 points in the second half during a 94-35 victory at Moody Center on Sunday.  

Sophomore Madison Booker accrued 14 points, along with seven rebounds and seven assists, registering no turnovers and three steals. Kyla Oldacre topped Texas with 21 points on 6-of-6 shooting from the field.  Taylor Jones contributed in double figures with 11 points and collected nine rebounds. Freshmen Bryanna Preston and Jordan Lee each achieved nine points. 

The Longhorns converted 80.8 percent of their free throws, contributing 21 points. Texas induced 37 UTRGV turnovers, turning those into 47 points. The Longhorns overwhelmed the Vaqueros, out-rebounding UTRGV 44-29. 

A field goal from Jones propelled Texas on a 10-0 scoring streak to initiate the first quarter. Following a layup by Booker, Texas launched an 11-0 run, broadening their advantage to 21-3. Texas then prompted thirteen turnovers to add 17 points and concluded the first quarter 24-5 ahead. 

With a 7-0 burst over 0:42 of playing time, the Longhorns induced a 3:34 field goal drought for the Vaqueros to begin the second quarter. Oldacre accumulated a total of 13 points and five rebounds, positioning the Longhorns with a 46-22 lead at halftime. 

Commencing the second half with a jumper by Booker and an assist from Harmon, Texas initiated a 6-0 run. Booker registered eight points, four rebounds, and four assists, guiding the Longhorns to a 70-26 lead by the conclusion of the third quarter. 

Booker hit a pair of free throws to kick off the fourth quarter against the Vaqueros. Texas continued their momentum with a 6-0 run over 0:54 of playing time, extending their advantage and wrapping up the match, 94-35. 

Next, No. 5 Texas enters conference play and heads to Norman, Okla. to compete against No. 9 Oklahoma on Thursday, January 2 at 8:00 PM CT. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
