BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Tennessee freshman Kaniya Boyd has been honored as the Southeastern Conference Women’s Basketball Co-Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Boyd, a 5-foot-9 guard hailing from Las Vegas, delivered the best performance of her career on Sunday against Winthrop. She achieved a career-high of 15 points with an impeccable 5-of-5 shooting from the field and equaled her personal bests with four assists and three rebounds, leading the No. 15/13 Lady Vols to a 12-0 record for the first time since the 2017-18 season and the seventh occasion in the program’s history.

She kicked off her game with a three-pointer that initiated the Lady Vols’ game-starting 11-0 surge and maintained perfect shooting from the field. She concluded with four successful free throws out of five attempts, raising her season free throw percentage to 82.4 percent and bolstering a UT offensive onslaught that surpassed 100 points for the sixth time in 12 games, finishing with a commanding 114-50 victory over the Eagles.

Previously, Boyd’s scoring peak was six points, achieved against Richmond on Dec. 20 and earlier against UT Martin in their second game on Nov. 7. Her five field goals surpassed the total of four she collected in her preceding five games, and her 15 points exceeded the 11 score combined over the last six matchups.

As a result of her outstanding performance, the rookie has raised her averages to 4.2 points, 1.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.6 steals, which are now the highest figures of the season.

Boyd and her teammates are set to commence SEC play on Thursday evening as they head to College Station to face the Texas A&M Aggies at 7 p.m. CT (8 ET) in a game that will be aired on SECN+ and the Lady Vol Radio Network.
