Diving Into the New Year: Women’s Swim & Dive Welcomes NAU for Exciting Season Opener!

TUCSON, ARIZ. — The Women’s Swim & Dive team returns to Hillenbrand this week to face Northern Arizona University in Arizona’s inaugural meet of 2025. 

The Cats competed against the Lumberjacks at the start of the 2024-2025 season during the All-Arizona D1 Quad. In that October encounter, Arizona triumphed over NAU with a score of 201-79. 

The Wildcats are coming off an impressive 217-131 victory against Big 12 competitor BYU at their final home meet of 2024 on December 20-21. The face-off with BYU showcased remarkable performances from numerous members of the swimming and diving teams, including Paige Armstrong, Kayman Neal, Maria Colombo, and Zara Ayazi. 

LUMBERJACKS TO KEEP AN EYE ON

NAU swimmer Cydnie Perkins was awarded the Western Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week on December 11, after securing first place in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.00) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.35) when the Lumberjacks competed against Utah Tech in early December.

Margaret Wesche, a diver from the Lumberjacks, has also received conference accolades this season after achieving scores of 271.40 in the 1-meter diving event and 283.75 in the 3-meter during a mid-November tri-meet. 

NAU’s Elsa Musselman has clocked an impressive time for the 200 Fly (2:02.51) this season, only .11 seconds slower than Arizona’s leading time this season from MJ Neilson (2:02.40).
