Health Minister Mike Nesbitt has called upon the public to back the health service by celebrating the New Year safely.
The Minister also requested that the community continue to show consideration to health and social care personnel as they cope with ongoing demands on services.
He remarked:
“The health service requires support from the entire community to navigate this period. That encompasses celebrating New Year’s Eve in a responsible and safe manner. If you plan on going out, prioritize your safety and that of your companions. Avoid actions that could lead to unnecessary injuries or health issues requiring treatment.
“The demand for care is currently far surpassing what the health service can offer. Unfortunately, this is resulting in considerable delays for numerous patients. Nearby health services are encountering similar challenges. Please treat staff with respect as they strive tirelessly to deliver the best possible care under the circumstances.
“If you are visiting an Emergency Department, kindly limit your accompaniment to one other person to help mitigate congestion. Due to the current flu levels, hospitals may request that you wear a mask.”
The Minister additionally highlighted the potential for significantly colder weather later this week in Northern Ireland.
“With predictions of ice, frost, and snow, it is crucial for older individuals to keep warm and prevent slips and falls. I urge everyone to assist their elderly relatives and neighbors.”
