Nick Bosa Sees Exciting Potential in Lions: A Playmaker’s Perspective

Nick Bosa values competing against the elite players.

The 49ers defensive end achieved two sacks in San Francisco’s 40-34 defeat to the Detroit Lions during “Monday Night Football” at Levi’s Stadium. Even though it was another aggravating loss, he emerged from the high-stakes encounter with considerable admiration for his adversary, who is currently the NFC’s number one seed as they head into Week 18 of the 2024 regular season.

When addressing reporters post-game, Bosa was queried on whether he thinks this year’s Lions squad is distinct from the one he and the 49ers faced — and triumphed over — in last year’s NFC Championship Game to progress to Super Bowl LVIII against the Kansas City Chiefs.

“I don’t believe they’re significantly different,” Bosa articulated. “I think they’ve encountered numerous injuries on defense, which impacts them, but the mindset of the head coach is evident in everyone. It’s truly an exciting team. I can just observe from a distance that it’s likely a joyful team to play for. They show up and compete to win every game, and I honor that.”

Competing for a 14-win team vying for a Super Bowl, understandably, would be enjoyable for any NFL athlete, particularly for Bosa and his 49ers colleagues who were in a comparable situation as Detroit only last year.

However, Bosa and the 49ers will be obliged to observe Detroit’s playoff journey from their homes following their Week 18 regular-season conclusion against the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday at State Farm Stadium.
