EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) — As 2025 commences, ABC-7 is reflecting on the most notable moments from Sunday Funday in 2024. Sponsored by Sarah Farms, the weekly segment showcased uplifting and significant narratives from the Borderland region.

Presented are the top five narratives that shaped 2024:

Fifth Place:
Mutts Canine Cantina collaborated with Train to Service Canine Academy to offer complimentary service animal training for local veterans. The initiative delivered transformative assistance, as one veteran remarked, “Since I’ve had Sampson, my quality of life has improved from about a three to a 12.”

Fourth Place:
The late LB, an 800-pound retired Navy sea lion, captivated guests at the El Paso Zoo with his enchanting love story. His energetic character and special bond with another sea lion created a significant legacy.

Third Place:
Aidan Gardea, who first featured on ABC-7 20 years ago seeking support for his disability, is now flourishing as a respected employee at Goodwill. “I appreciate Goodwill because it feels like family,” Gardea expressed.

Second Place:
Anthony Aguilar, proprietor of Revive Auto Solutions in El Paso and a former Army veteran, felt honored to spearhead a team tasked with detailing Air Force One. “For me, it’s another way to serve my nation and maintain a historical artifact for future generations to admire,” he remarked.

First Place:
Marissa Teijo, at 71 years old, made history by becoming the oldest contestant in the Miss Texas USA pageant. “Young women have aspirations, but older individuals also have dreams,” she noted, demonstrating that pursuing one’s goals knows no age.

These narratives exemplify the spirit and tenacity of the Borderland community. Sarah Farms’ support enabled the sharing of these moments with viewers every week. To be featured in the upcoming feel-good stories of 2025, please email us at Iris.Garcia-Barron@KVIA.com
