Airlines Take Action: Travel Waivers Issued Following Tragic New Orleans Attack

Following the postponement of the Sugar Bowl featuring Notre Dame and Georgia due to a tragic terrorist incident in New Orleans that resulted in 10 fatalities, several prominent U.S. airlines are providing travel waivers for those affected.

Individuals who booked a United Airlines ticket either to or from New Orleans on or prior to Dec. 31, 2024, with travel scheduled between Jan. 1 and Jan. 3, 2025, qualify for a travel waiver, as stated by the airline.

The airline indicated that change fees and fare differences will be waived for rescheduling the journey, although the flight must depart by Jan. 6. Additionally, tickets need to be in the same class and between the same locations as originally booked.

Southwest Airlines is providing customers the option to alter their travel plans within 14 days of their initial booking date for passengers with flights booked between Jan. 1 and Jan. 3.

Those who have completely canceled their trip as a result of the terrorist attack may qualify for a refund for the unused ticket, with further information on available options available here.

Delta Air Lines is likewise offering options for rebooking for passengers with flights reserved between Jan. 1 and Jan. 3, while the flight for the reissued ticket must also be scheduled to depart by Jan. 6.

The fare difference will be waived if the rebooked flight is between the same destinations in the same class. More details can be found here.
