Fog Disrupts RSW Flights: Hours of Delays Unveiled by LCPA

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Certain passengers at RSW faced considerable delays on Tuesday morning. The Lee County Port Authority indicated that it was primarily due to the thick fog.

Fox 4’s Bella Line interviewed travelers, with some reporting nearly 6-hour delays.

TRAVEL TROUBLES: Flights at RSW delayed for hours, LCPA states it was mainly caused by foggy conditions

“We received a message at 20 to 1 [AM] saying that our flight was postponed until 230 [PM],” remarked Sharon Hall, who is traveling to Minneapolis.

“I was awakened this morning at 4 AM by a notification on my phone, as I always monitor all my flights departing from Southwest, and it indicated expected delays,” stated Lexi, who is heading to Denver.

It’s the narrative we overheard throughout the day…

“Then we got another notification about five minutes later, indicating we were postponed until 3 [PM] and shortly after, we received another message saying, we’re now delayed until 3:30 [PM], which totals 5 hours and 45 minutes,” Hall explained.

The Lee County Port Authority mentions that most of these delays resulted from the thick fog covering our region.

The fog also resulted in troublesome conditions for travelers who were out before dawn.

Nevertheless, the delays did not prevent Sharon and Lexi from arriving early at the airport and remaining optimistic.

“I actually have an additional flight to a private airfield after Denver, and now I’ve had to reschedule that for about four or five hours later, so hopefully it works out, but we’re just going to roll with it,” Lexi mentioned.

“We packed a deck of cards, and we’re going to, you know, eat breakfast and likely lunch here,” Hall said.
