As per reports from MacRumors, an American site focusing on Apple news, the production of Apple’s first-generation Vision Pro headset has allegedly been halted.

Launched earlier this year as Apple’s most ambitious venture into mixed reality, the gadget has encountered production reductions and declining interest, stirring rumors that its manufacturing may have ceased.

Information sourced by MacRumors reveals that Apple initiated a production ramp-down in early summer, with its assembler Luxshare producing merely 1,000 units per day by October, marking a 50 percent decrease from maximum output.

By November, Apple allegedly directed Luxshare to entirely cease production.

It is believed that the company has amassed sufficient stock, estimated between 500,000 and 600,000 units, to satisfy the projected demand until 2025.

Reports acquired by MacRumors suggest that warehouses are filled with tens of thousands of unsent components, indicating a strategic decision by Apple to halt further production while circumventing excess supply.

The Vision Pro has encountered difficulties in establishing its presence, primarily due to its high price of USD 3,499 and a limited content ecosystem.

Characterized by Apple CEO Tim Cook as an “early-adopter product,” the device targeted tech aficionados rather than the general public.

Nonetheless, even within this specialized group, interest has been modest, leading Apple to reassess its approach in the mixed-reality arena.

In response to the Vision Pro’s difficulties, Apple is reportedly redirecting its attention toward creating a more budget-friendly mixed-reality headset.

Vendors have been advised to prepare for production up to four million units of this more affordable device throughout its lifecycle, which is half the target of the original Vision Pro.

Progress on the second-generation Vision Pro has reportedly been halted for at least a year. However, according to MacRumors, there are signs that Apple may launch a minor update to the first-generation model featuring limited design tweaks, such as an upgraded M5 chip and enhanced smart features.

According to MacRumors, a possible unveiling for this updated device may occur between late 2025 and early 2026.
