Today: A swift-moving clipper system will bring a few light, scattered showers to our region this afternoon and evening. Some snowflakes may mix in with the rain primarily north of St. Louis; however, with ground and air temperatures remaining above freezing, no snow accumulation is anticipated and no travel disruptions are expected.

Sunday & Monday Morning Are First Alert Weather Days: The likelihood of significant snow, sleet, and freezing rain is rising for the Sunday-Monday period. A minor wintry mix might arrive as soon as Saturday evening, with conditions deteriorating rapidly into Sunday. The most recent model trends indicate that primarily snow will fall in the northern part of our viewing area, while a combination of snow, sleet, and freezing rain will occur further south. This positions the St. Louis metropolitan region in an area that may witness different types of wintery precipitation throughout most of Sunday. Ultimately, we anticipate a switch to all snow in our area from Sunday afternoon into Sunday night.

There remains considerable uncertainty regarding when that snow will cease, which could have significant implications for the Monday morning commute and may affect schools as they resume after the holiday break.

It’s still premature to reliably estimate accumulation amounts. We will begin to disclose maps of forecasted amounts on Friday. However, even then, substantial alterations could arise as the high-resolution models come online from Friday into Saturday.

Bottom Line: Stay with us. We’ll keep you updated on the model trends, highlight what’s new, and ensure you’re ready as the forecast progresses.
