Diving into Competition: Swimming Faces Off Against Top-Ranked Louisville This Friday!

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri swimming and diving team is prepared to commence the 2025 year with a home competition against Louisville on Friday (Jan. 3) at the Mizzou Aquatic Center.

The Tigers last took part in competition in November at the Georgia Invitational, where both teams finished in fifth place. The Mizzou men’s team accumulated 524 points, while the women’s team recorded 492.5 in Athens.

Mizzou sent two divers to the 2024 USA Diving Winter National Championships in Bloomington, Indiana (Dec. 11-15). Junior Collier Dyer achieved a score of 730.55 in senior men’s 3-meter diving to secure a fourth-place finish, alongside a score of 747.45 in senior men’s platform diving for fifth place. Freshman Derek Colbert recorded 623.90 in senior men’s platform diving to take tenth place.

VERSUS LOUISVILLE

• The MU men’s team enters the competition with a 1-6 series record against the Cardinals (1-2 and currently ranked No. 10 in the latest CSCAA Top 25).
• The Mizzou women’s team holds an 0-5 all-time record in head-to-head battles against Louisville (4-0 and presently ranked No. 8).
• The Tigers last competed against the Cardinals on January 5, 2024, at Ralph Wright Natatorium.
• Last season in Louisville, the men’s team lost 205-89, while the women suffered a 203-96 defeat.

LAST PERFORMANCE: GEORGIA INVITATIONAL

• The men’s 200 free relay team consisting of Luke Nebrich, Grant Bochenski, Francois Malherbe, and Darden Tate registered a time of 1:16.98 that met the NCAA B cut qualifying standard, finishing fourth.
• Newcomer Megan Jolly achieved her highest score of the season with 297.45 in women’s 3-meter diving, placing fourth. Jolly also secured fifth in women’s 1-meter diving with a 265.20 score.
• Gabriela San Juan Carmona earned fifth place in women’s 3-meter diving, scoring 289.20.
• Bochenski excelled in the men’s 400 medley relay with a personal swim time of 45.34, exceeding the 2023 NCAA invited time. He also finished second in the men’s 100 back with a time of 45.66.
• Poland native Jan Zubik made it to the podium in the men’s 100 fly with a time of 45.99 to earn bronze. Zubik also claimed his second bronze in the men’s 200 fly with a 1:41.65 swim.
• The men’s 200 medley relay team comprising Logan Ottke, Bochenski, Zubik, and Nebrich took third place, finishing with a time of 1:24.19.
• Dyer earned his position on the men’s 3-meter diving podium with a score of 373.80, securing second place. Dyer also took fifth place in men’s platform diving with a score of 336.00.
• The women’s team found triumph in the short-course through Karolina Bank in the 100 breast and Paige Striley in the 100 fly. Bank placed fourth with a time of 59.97, while Striley earned fifth with a time of 52.62.
• Alex Ochsenbein secured fifth place in the men’s 100 breast with a swim of 52.60 and also excelled in the men’s 200 breast, finishing fourth with a time of 1:54.95.
• Freshman Derek Colbert achieved his first career podium finish placing second with a score of 356.75 in men’s platform diving.
• Freshman Mia Henninger also recorded a personal-best performance with a score of 240.65, finishing fourth in women’s platform diving.
• Tommaso Zannella posted his best season performance with a fourth place finish in men’s platform diving, scoring 336.20.
• Zara Zallen made her appearance on the podium with a time of 48.58 in the women’s 100 free, landing in third place.
• The women’s 400 free relay team, which included Zallen, Francesca Smith, Katie Kuehn, and Sierra Smith, finished in fifth place with a time of 3:15.93.

NEXT UP

After a two-week break, the Tigers will welcome Missouri State and McKendree, on January 17-18 at the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
