PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown women’s hockey begins the new calendar year at the University of Minnesota Showcase with contests on Friday and Saturday. The Bears are set to compete against Minnesota on Friday (Jan. 3) at 5:30 p.m. ET and will face Bemidji State on Saturday (Jan. 4) at 2 p.m. ET.

Both matches will be broadcasted on Big Ten Plus.

Brown resumes play, competing for the first time since their two-game away trip to Rensselaer and Union on December 6-7. This match marks the first encounter with Minnesota since 2005 and the initial clash between the Bears and the Beavers.

The visit to the Land of 10,000 Lakes will be Brown’s first appearance in Minnesota since a trip to St. Cloud State in 2008.

The Bears’ eight triumphs prior to the holiday recess represent the second-highest number of victories in program history before the break and the most for the Bears since they recorded nine wins in 2004-05 in the matches leading up to January.

Senior Abby Hancock, Junior Maddie Morgan, and Sophomore Galie Levy return to their home state for the first weekend of the new year. Hancock hails from Maple Grove, Minn., Morgan is from Edina, Minn., and Broz is from Bloomington, Minn.

The Bears are propelled by eight goals from Ava DeCoste. DeCoste netted only five goals in her inaugural season on College Hill.
