STORRS, Conn. – The No. 15 ranked UConn women’s hockey squad returns to the rink this weekend, as the Huskies compete against Hockey East rivals, Boston College and Vermont. UConn will travel to BC on Friday, January 3 for a 6:00pm puck drop. The Huskies will be back at the Toscano Family Ice Forum on Sunday, January 5 to host Vermont in Storrs. Puck drop is slated for 3:00pm.

UConn is entering this weekend after a robust first half of the 2024-25 season, achieving a record of 10-3 in Hockey East play and 12-8 overall. The Huskies currently occupy second place with 28 points, only two points behind No. 13 Boston University (30). UConn will conclude its last 14 regular season matches, all against Hockey East opponents.

The leading trio in points for the Huskies are all positioned on the third line: Claire Murdoch (Toronto, Ontario), Ashley Allard (Ottawa, Ontario) and Kyla Josifovic (Burlington, Ontario). Murdoch tops the Huskies with 15 points in her inaugural season, netting six goals and providing nine assists, earning both Hockey East player and rookie of the week accolades in the first half. Allard has enjoyed a fantastic start to her sophomore year, scoring six goals and contributing six assists as the center of the third line. Her 183 faceoffs won currently ranks second in the conference. Josifovic excelled down the stretch leading up to the holiday break, scoring in three of UConn’s last four matches of 2024. The junior forward has an accumulation of six goals and six assists and leads Hockey East with four game-winning goals this season.

Evaluating Boston College:

The No. 11 ranked Boston College Eagles (12-6) have triumphed in two of their last three contests. The Eagles are presently in third position with 27 points in the Hockey East standings. UConn and BC divided the weekend series back in late November with both matches being narrow victories. The Eagles are guided by sophomore forward Sammy Taber, who leads the conference with 20 points so far this season.

Evaluating Vermont:

Vermont (4-13-2) comes off a 2-1 victory against Merrimack prior to the holiday break. The Catamounts are currently in sixth position with 14 points in the conference rankings. Vermont is directed by Jim Plumer in his 13th season. The Catamounts are led by junior forward Lara Beecher, who holds the team lead with ten points this season.
