“Unlock Enhanced Features: Lenovo Gaming Series WMI Drivers Get a Linux Update!”

Last month, I discussed a Lenovo Legion Linux driver that was released to enable additional power and performance settings on Linux. After a considerable overhaul, a second version of these updates has now been uploaded, simply labeled the Lenovo “Gaming Series” WMI drivers, omitting the Legion name.

These open-source Linux drivers are designed to unveil more power and performance options for the Lenovo Legion Go handheld gaming system, along with other Lenovo gaming products on Linux. The timing of this Linux driver development is particularly intriguing, as it has been speculated that next week at CES, Lenovo will unveil a Legion Go handheld that operates on Valve’s Linux-based SteamOS platform. It will be fascinating to observe how Lenovo promotes SteamOS/Linux at CES in Las Vegas next week, but regardless, this gaming series driver initiative is now aimed at improving support on Linux.

These drivers utilize the WMI interfaces to modify various power configurations on Linux. With the v2 updates, all “Legion” references have been changed to Lenovo “Gaming Series” for better future adaptability in terms of product branding. Moreover, there are several corrections for issues raised during the initial code review phase.

Those interested can check this v2 patch series for the code under review working on the Lenovo Gaming Series WMI drivers alongside the GameZone WMI driver, Capability Data 01 WMI driver, and Other Mode WMI driver components. It is hoped that this new code aimed at enhancing Lenovo gaming hardware support on Linux will soon be integrated into the main kernel, while it is probable that the new Lenovo Legion Go operating on SteamOS will already include this driver support.
