Funds taken from drug traffickers who harmed a community have been granted to a local youth center.

The Hive, situated in Birkenhead, has been awarded £6,000 from Merseyside Police as part of a program known as Operation Payback.

This initiative seeks to invest in local charities that assist community groups, as stated by Insp Nicola Hughes.

Many users of The Hive originate from areas in Wirral impacted by serious and organized crime, she mentioned.

“The Hive, in conjunction with our other community groups, plays a crucial part in offering young individuals the best opportunities in life,” Insp Hughes remarked.

“The funding granted to The Hive will allow them to keep delivering an essential service and a secure environment for hundreds of at-risk young people.”

The Hive is also utilized as a school for children who are no longer engaged in conventional education.

It aids youth aged between eight and 25, providing a variety of activities and resources focused on promoting personal growth, social interaction, and overall wellness.

CEO of the charity, Jayne Wilson, stated that the funds would help guarantee that the youth club continued to be a secure and stimulating haven for young people.

She highlighted the significance of this, particularly as a recent survey indicated that 35% of youth in the north-west of England were struggling with feelings of isolation.

“Regrettably, far too many young people feel they do not have a place to go or partake in constructive activities outside of school,” Ms. Wilson expressed.

“The strains of everyday life only exacerbate this situation.”
