Biden Grants Major Disaster Status to Missouri: A Lifeline for Recovery

Today, President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. announced the existence of a significant disaster in the State of Missouri and mandated Federal support to enhance state and local recovery initiatives in the regions impacted by intense storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds, and flooding from November 3 to November 9, 2024.

Federal funding is accessible to state and qualifying local governments, as well as some private nonprofit entities, based on a cost-sharing arrangement for emergency assistance and the restoration or replacement of infrastructure damaged by the severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds, and flooding occurring in the counties of Carter, Crawford, Dent, Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Phelps, Pulaski, Reynolds, Shannon, Texas, Washington, and Wright.

Federal funding is also obtainable on a cost-sharing basis for statewide hazard mitigation strategies.

Mr. Andrew P. Meyer of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been designated to oversee Federal recovery operations in the impacted regions.

Further designations may be made subsequently if requested by the state and justified by the outcomes of additional damage evaluations.
