Biden’s Heartfelt Journey to New Orleans: Connecting with Families After Tragedy

President Joe Biden along with first lady Jill Biden is set to travel to New Orleans on Monday, the location of a New Year’s Day terrorist assault that resulted in 14 fatalities and several injuries, as announced by the White House on Friday.

In a statement, the White House noted that the Bidens will “mourn with the families and community members affected by the tragic incident on January 1 and engage with officials on the scene” while in Louisiana.

This announcement follows two days after Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, crashed a pickup truck into crowds on Bourbon Street early Wednesday morning. Jabbar was shot dead by law enforcement shortly following the incident.

The FBI has indicated that he acted independently and labeled the attack as “100% inspired by ISIS.”

On Thursday, Biden addressed the New Orleans attack and a separate incident in Las Vegas on New Year’s Day, where a vehicle detonated in front of a Trump-branded establishment.

“We are also continuing to examine whether or not there is any link between the New Orleans incident and the explosion in Las Vegas. Currently, as of now — I’ve just been informed — they have not identified any evidence of a connection,” Biden stated at an event honoring the number of his judicial nominations confirmed during his administration.

Biden further mentioned, “I have instructed my team to expedite these inquiries so we can obtain answers to our unresolved queries. They are allocating every available resource to complete the task.”
