Dive into Action: Women’s Swimming Faces FDU-Florham Showdown!

Montclair, NJ- The Women’s Swimming and Diving team at Montclair State University welcomes the new year by hosting FDU-Florham for a dual competition this Friday.

LAST PERFORMANCE

Montclair concluded 2024 at the Gettysburg Invite on December 6 & 7, attaining 2^nd place out of 6 teams with a total of 780 points. ROURKE PERALTA shone in the 50 free by outperforming 48 other participants to secure first place in the event with a time of 23.65. She surpassed her best season time previously set of 23.97, coming within 0.03 seconds of equaling her school record established at last year’s NJAC Championships, which stood at 23.62. JULIE TIEDEMANN crushed her season-best in the 500 free, clocking a 5:12.57 to take second place. DEVYN FORD also ranked in the top 10, finishing ninth with a personal best of 5:25.56, significantly improving her seed time of 5:43.50. MARIANNE TASSINARI led the Red Hawks in the 200 IM, achieving fifth with a season-best of 2:12.81. Catharine Geyer was just on the border of the top 10, finishing 10^th with a season-best of 2:14.90. Lilli Shay narrowly missed the top 10, placing 11 following her own season-best of 2:15.50. The Red Hawks celebrated two top-three finishes from their “A” relay teams. The 200 free relay team comprising Peralta, SARAH FONDACARO, ABBY BROCK, and SOPHIA SHOPOVICK secured second place with a timing of 1:37.55, surpassing their seed time of 1:42.12. The 400 free relay team consisting of Shopovick, Brock, MADELINE ROGERS, and Peralta placed third with a time of 3:57.23, improving by about five seconds from their initial seed time. Peralta’s remarkable swim broke the previous record held by Madison Franke from the 2019 Metropolitan Championships of 52.17, when she posted a 51.54, marking her second first-place finish over the weekend, and securing her position among the top 25 in the nation within this event. Additionally, Montclair witnessed outstanding performances from ABBY BROCK and MARIANNE TASSINARI. Brock achieved second place in the 100 breast with a season-best of 1:04.70, and third place in the 200 breast with a personal best of 2:27.62. Tassinari reached the wall just ahead of Brock in the 200 breast at second place with a time of 2:26.02, also her season-best. She further secured third place in the 400 IM, timing 4:38.52, which was another personal best. Tassinari was closely followed by ABBY PANZARELLA and KACIE GADZINSKI, both achieving season-best results of 4:46.76 and 4:48.40, respectively. SERIES HISTORY

Montclair and FDU-Florham are set to compete for the 13^th occasion in their program’s annals. Montclair upholds an undefeated streak against the Devils with a 12-0 tally.

LAST TIME OUT

During the 2022-23 season, Montclair triumphed in the narrowest dual meet in their historical series with a 91-80 win.

 

NEXT TIME OUT

Montclair State University will once again host on Thursday, January 16 against Division I Saint Peter’s. The meet is set to commence at 4:00 pm.
