Kidsburgh has collected information on some of the finest choices for indoor pools across the region, which encompass local school districts and day passes at hotels. Experience an indoor splash this winter at one of these wonderful locales.

INDOOR POOLS

Community and Recreation Center at Boyce Mayview Park, Upper St. Clair

The recreation center at Boyce Mayview Park features both indoor and outdoor pools, which are quite popular. While weekends are exclusive to members only (priced at $111 per month if booked for the entire year, or $473 per month for a winter pass), weekdays welcome non-members at a cost of $15 per person. The Kingsley Association

This community center, situated in Larimer, boasts a pool and fitness facility with a guest fee of $10. However, their memberships are extremely inexpensive. YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh Pools

The Pittsburgh metro region YMCA pools offer day passes for non-members. It’s advised to check individual pool schedules and reserve your pool time. A day pass costs $10 for adults and $5 for youth at the Sampson Family YMCA, Spencer Family YMCA, and Thelma Lovette YMCA. At the Baierl Family YMCA, the fee is $20 for adults and $10 for youth. The Allegheny YMCA on Pittsburgh’s North Side will undergo renovations this winter but remains a fantastic choice for indoor swimming once those updates are finished.

Rose E. Schneider YMCA, Cranberry Township

The aquatic center at this Butler County YMCA location features a lap pool, warm water pool, slide, and zero-depth entry with sprayers, alongside a hot tub, sauna, and steam room for adult patrons. Families are encouraged to inquire about discounted memberships if finances pose a challenge. Additionally, they provide a day rate of $12 for adults and $6 for children. Please refer to the pool schedule to confirm that the amenities you intend to utilize are available at your chosen time. If the weather is relatively pleasant, do not overlook their playground featuring a zip line as well.

Sunrise Pool, New Brighton

This pool, owned by the New Brighton Area School District, operates as an open-air pool during the summer with a dome that is closed in the winter months. It is very budget-friendly – $4 for infants and toddlers, $5 for students, and $6 for adults. Hours, details, and class information can be accessed here.

Goldfish Swim Schools

Although Goldfish is recognized for its comprehensive swimming lesson programs and fantastic birthday celebrations, it also provides family swim times a few hours each week. No membership is necessary, but registration is required. Please review the hours for the Wexford, Fox Chapel, and Peters Township locations for specifics. Reservations are required for family swim, with a fee of $10 per swimmer.

Local Hotel Day Pass

Numerous local hotels permit guests to reserve a room for a few hours throughout the day and utilize the pool without the need to stay overnight. Several booking options are available, such as ResortPass.com and Dayuse.com. Some local instances include reserving a room at the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh Downtown for 9 hours at $79 per family, or a 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. slot at the Pittsburgh Marriott for $99 through Dayuse. Although you’re not staying overnight, having a room for changing out of swimwear before facing the cold weather is quite pleasant. Options are also available on ResortPass to swim without needing a room. The Homewood Suites near Canonsburg charges $15 per person, which grants access to the gym, hot tub, and pool.

It’s often not substantially more expensive to book an overnight stay for a winter escapade, especially in hotels located in the suburbs. For instance, the Doubletree in Cranberry Township, featuring a large atrium pool, costs approximately $160 per night for a double room and access to swim for two consecutive days.

“Swimply” — The Airbnb of Pools

Swimply is an emerging platform that enables guests to rent private pools from homeowners in their vicinity for an hourly fee. While various pools in the Pittsburgh area cater to summer use, there are also some indoor pools available for booking like this one in Venetia. Additionally, there’s the Living Waters Splash Pad located in Emsworth. Although there is no depth, the various water features and slides create a fantastic indoor splash pad for younger children. Living Waters also provides a designated space for hosting birthday parties. Rates might be elevated for these services, starting at around $45 per hour, yet your rental encompasses the entire pool. Most accommodate 15 to 25 individuals, so one option is to share expenses with friends you can count on.

Local School District Pools

North Hills High School Aquatics TK TK 

Shaler Area Community Swim Program offers recreational swim periods on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays this winter. Cool Springs Fitness, Mercer

If you’re willing to make the drive, the
“`Cool Springs Fitness center in Mercer offers very economical daily rates for their indoor aquatic facility. There exists a heated pool maintained above 90 degrees along with a lap pool that remains a still-pleasant 80 degrees. Please review the timetable before heading out, as classes or activities may alter pool access. Admission for adults is $8 and for children, it’s $5. A bundle of six admissions is priced at $40. 

INDOOR WATER PARKS

Although Pittsburgh currently lacks its own indoor water park, there are several options within a short drive for a day outing or overnight escape. Splash Lagoon situated in Erie is roughly a two-hour drive away. A bit less than a three-hour drive will take you to Sandusky, Ohio, home to Castaway Bay, Kalahari, and Great Wolf Lodge. For a ski-and-splash experience, the Poconos (approximately four to five hours drive) features Aquatopia, Kalahari, and Great Wolf Lodge as well. 

Oliver Bath House, South Side

This favored swimming venue has been shut for renovations since 2023, but it is anticipated to reopen in early 2025. Did you know this pool is Pittsburgh’s only publicly owned indoor swimming facility? It’s a historic treasure with intricate features — but it also demands significant effort to maintain in usable condition.
