Diving Into Challenge: Swim Team Faces Off Against Ranked Louisville in 2025’s Opening Dual

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The swimming and diving team at the University of Missouri commenced the new year with several impressive performances against nationally-ranked Louisville. However, strong finishes propelled both Cardinals squads to triumph over the Tigers on Friday afternoon at the Mizzou Aquatic Center.

The eighth-ranked Louisville women defeated the Tigers with a score of 204-95, while the No. 10 Cardinals won 193-107 on the men’s side.

“We certainly had some outstanding moments,” stated Mizzou’s head swimming and diving coach Andrew Grevers. “Grant Bochenski’s 100 back was impressive, and Zoe Schneider securing the victory in the 1000 (free) was a significant accomplishment for her. Jan Zubik’s 200 fly was critical, along with Emily Roden’s performance in the 200 fly…she’s dealt with some serious injuries and had to sit out for some time, so for her to return today and win that event after not racing it all season was a tremendous achievement. I am incredibly proud of the Tigers and their determination after some exceptionally tough training over the last month and a half, and today undoubtedly puts us on a promising path for the end of the season.”

Mizzou diving achieved success by finishing first in both women’s and men’s 3-meter springboard events. Gabriela San Juan Carmona secured first place with a score of 301.28, while junior Collier Dyer led the men with a score of 375.60. Dyer also triumphed in platform diving with a performance of 383.03. Freshman Deacon Colbert marked his first career podium finish with a score of 335.63 in the platform, earning silver.

Roden, a sophomore, achieved her first gold finish of the season in the women’s 200 fly, completing the race in 1:57.95. Zubik won the men’s 200 fly clocking in at 1:42.65, accomplishing the Tigers’ first-place sweep of the event.

Bochenski, hailing from Naperville, Illinois, claimed another victory in the 100 back with a time of 45.86. The senior remains undefeated in the 100 back at home this season.

Additionally, Bochenski aided Luke Nebrich, Francois Malherbe, and Darden Tate in achieving a time of 1:18.40 in the men’s 200 free relay, securing gold.

Schneider clinched first place in the women’s 1000 free, finishing the race in 9:50.49. Senior Jibran Himsieh took the top spot in the men’s 1000 free with a time of 9:14.94.

UP NEXT

After a two-week break, the Tigers will host Missouri State and McKendree on January 17-18 at the Mizzou Aquatic Center. Senior graduates will be recognized with a pre-meet ceremony.
