Dueling Swimmers: Dallas and Valley West Make Waves in the Pool

DALLAS — Dallas witnessed three competitors triumph in multiple events Thursday afternoon as the Mountaineers triumphed over Wyoming Valley West, 132-35, in the Wyoming Valley Conference girls swimming.

Lydia Gonzales, Peyton Stauffer, and Erika Doran each secured victories twice as Dallas dominated first place in all events.

Boys swimming

Wyoming Valley West 96, Dallas 50: At Dallas, William Bell and Cole Bolesta both achieved victories in two events as the Spartans claimed a league win.

Additionally, Theron Roberts and William Bartolomei secured victories for WVW.

Girls basketball

Hazleton Area 59, Wilkes-Barre Area 18: At Wilkes-Barre Area, Hazleton Area utilized a strong first half, amassing 45 points — 29 of which came in the second quarter — as the Cougars secured a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 victory Thursday evening at The Den.

Kaitlyn Bindas netted 14 of her game-high 16 points during the second quarter. Sophia Shults contributed 13 points for Hazleton Area, and Alexis Reimold added nine to assist Hazleton Area in improving to 11-0.

Jaida Underwood topped Wilkes-Barre Area with eight points. Diamond Thornton contributed four.

Boys basketball

Pittston Area 86, Nativity BVM 65: At Pittston Area, Silvio Giardina recorded a season-high 31 points and Aiden Lynn contributed 22 as Pittston Area achieved a nonleague victory Thursday night.

Pittston Area amassed 27 points in the opening quarter and added another 24 in the fourth. Lucas Lopresto scored 14 points for the Patriots, while John Jadus registered nine.

North Schuylkill 59, Hanover Area 51 (OT): At Hanover Area, Zack Marcinowski converted five of his 16 points in overtime to assist North Schuylkill in earning a nonleague victory at Hanover Area.

Jude Maziekas added 10 points for North Schuylkill, while Max Gallagher and Sam Wall each contributed nine.

Noah Dewey led Hanover Area with 28 points. Kairi Craft recorded eight points.

Shenandoah Valley 36, MMI Prep 30: At MMI Prep, David Burrows tallied eight points and Landen Monaghan added seven to guide Shenandoah Valley to a nonleague triumph over MMI Prep.

Nick Pantages led MMI Prep with a game-high 14 points. Jandel Figueroa contributed six for the Preppers.
